Another Space

SYNOPSIS

「消耗のうちに終わるもの、それは死だが、完璧な終末とは、永続のうちにある」（「迷い鳥たち」ラビンドラナート・タゴール）。このアニメーションは、少女と少女の飼う金魚アルファの物語。ある日、アルファは泳ぐのをやめる。少女は混乱し、何が起こったのか理解できない。みなは真実を教えてくれるが、それでも答えを探す。少女にとって、アルファへの愛は死を超えていて、永続するものだからだ。私が語りたいのは生と死の葛藤。生き物である人間は、死をきちんと理解しないといけない。でも、少女は機械に答えを求める。コンピュータは簡単に、そしてすぐに答えを出すことができるように思える。でも、生命なきものが、死の意味を本当に教えてくれることなどあるのだろうか？　ところで、キャラクターの名前にはちょっとした示唆をこめている。金魚をアルファと名付けたのは、輪郭がαと似てるから。少女の名前がオメガなのは、Ωが彼女の髪型に似てるから。このふたつは古代ギリシャ語のアルファベットの最初と最後の文字であり、人生のはじまりと終わりを表してもいる。

That which ends in exhaustion is death,but the perfect ending is in the endless. – Stray Birds by Rabindranath Tagore The story of my animation is about a girl and her gold fish named Alpha. One day, Alpha stopped swimming, the girl was confused and couldn't understand what was happening. She tried hard to find out an answer despite that people keep telling her the truth. To the girl, her love for Alpha is beyond death, and everlasting. What I want to convey in my story is a conflict between life and death. As a living creature, human beings should clearly understand what death is. However, the girl attempted to find the answer with a machine. The computer seems able to pop up the answer easily and instantly, but can an inanimate objet really tell us the meaning of death? Meanwhile, there is a subtle suggestion in the name of the characters. The gold fish named Alpha because the outline of the fish looks like "α"; the little girl named Omega since the shape of "Ω" looks like her hairstyle. They are the first and last letters in the Ancient Greek alphabet, and they represent the beginning and the end of life respectively.
