世界を代表する人形アニメーション作家アダム・エリオット氏をお招きして、その過去の達成をご本人のトークとともに振り返る特集上映を行います。自身の作品を、粘土（クレイ）と伝記（バイオグラフィー）を合わせた造語「クレイオグラフィー」であると語るエリオット氏は、自分の身近にいる人々や、自らの経験をモチーフとして、場合によっては人々が眉をひそめがちになってしまう現実を生きざるを得ない人々の人生を優しく語っていきます。その作品は世界的に評価が高く、『ハーヴィー・クランペット』ではアカデミー賞短編アニメーション賞、初の長編『メアリー&マックス』はアヌシー国際アニメーション映画祭でクリスタル（グランプリ）を受賞しました。今回の特集上映では、エリオット氏の過去作品を一挙上映するとともに、ご本人によるレクチャーで、アダム流人形アニメーションの作り方の秘密を明らかにしていきます。
A retrospective and a lecture will be hosted by Adam Elliot, one of the most prominent puppet animators in the world. Elliot calls his films as “clayographies” a word created by combining “clay” with “biography”. Most of his films are based on his own life or on people who are close to him. The “biographies” presented in his films feature bitter aspects of their life or existence but the way Elliot tells their stories is gentle and warm as if he embraces them warmly. His films are critically acclaimed and have won many awards including Academy Awards and Crystal at Annecy.

アダム・エリオット ( Adam Elliot )
オーストラリアのメルボルンを拠点とするアダム・エリオットは、元気なエビの養殖業者の息子であり、自分の描く絵や物語を「クレイオグラフィー」――彼の家族友達、知り合いの人生をベースとした、クレイ（粘土）による大人向けのビタースウィートなバイオグラフィー――と名づけている。アダムが用いるのは伝統的なコマ撮りのテクニックだけである。小道具もセットも、クレイやダンボール、ワイヤーや絵具を用いた手作りである。彼の作品はこれまで800を超える映画祭で上映され、100を超える賞を獲っており、そのなかには『ハーヴィー・クランペット』による2004年のアカデミー賞短編アニメーション部門受賞も含まれている。
Based in Melbourne Australia, Adam is the son of an acrobatic prawn farmer. He describes his pictures and animated films as Clayographies; bittersweet adult clay biographies based on his family, friends and acquaintances. He uses only traditional stopmotion and photographic techniques to create his work, and every prop, set and character is hand crafted using clay, cardboard, wire and paint. His films have participated in over 8oo film festivals and accumulated over 100 awards including the 2004 Short Animation Academy Award™ for HARVIE KRUMPET.
