現代美術アーティストの束芋は、2011年のベネチア・ビエンナーレ以降、ニューヨーク、チューリッヒ、シドニー、シアトルなどでインスタレーションを発表する一方、ダンス、文楽、パフォーマンスにも映像で参加してきました。宇和島では旅館に映像作品を設えたり、シアトルでは美術館の収蔵作品とのコラボレーションも新たな取り組みになりました。そして出発点である京都では旧日本銀行の建物でそのイメージも取り込んだインターネットをテーマにした作品を展開。本作品は束芋のインタビューを交えてその変遷を振り返る6番目のドキュメンタリーになります。
Tabaimo (b. 1975) converts her hand-drawn images into animation and incorporates them into installations, using multi-projection and other means of expression. The film introduces a new endeavor with dance, Bunraku and performance projects, in addition to her exhibitions in N.Y., Zurich, Sydney after the Venezia Biennale in 2011. Tabaimo also collaborated on the Japanese Inn project in Uwajima and with the museum collection at the Seattle Art Museum. In Kyoto, her artistic hometown, she exhibited a piece about the internet incorporating architectural features of the former Bank of Japan. “tabi-imo”, the 6thdocumentary of Tabaimo, reflects back on the artist’s transition through her interviews.

束芋 ( Tabaimo )
手書きドローイングと日本の伝統的な木版画を思わせる色彩を用いたアニメーション・インスタレーションで知られ、現代日本社会に潜む問題をシュールでシニカルに表現。2011年、第54回ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際美術展に日本代表として参加。2006年にイスラエルのバットシェバ・ダンス・カンパニーのオハッド・ナハリンとのコラボレーションを皮切りに、様々な舞台コラボレーションに取り組んでいる。2016年、映像芝居「錆からでた実」(東京芸術劇場 シアターイースト公演)を演出。この舞台作品は、2020年に米国4都市を巡回した。2022年サーカスアーティストヨルグ・ミュラーとのコラボレーション作品「もつれる水滴」が世界初演として日本ツアーを行い、同年秋、フランス4都市を巡るツアーを開催。2022年にドイツのフォルクヴァンク美術館にて新作インスタレーション作品を発表。2023年にはコペンハーゲンのGL Strandにて大規模個展を開催。
Well known for animated installations which use drawings and coloration that evoke the hand-made nature of traditional Japanese woodblock prints, offer a surreal, complex and sometimes disturbing vision of contemporary Japanese society. In 2011, she represented Japan at the 54th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. She has begun to work on a variety of stage collaborations, beginning with a collaboration with Ohad Naharin of Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company in 2006. In 2016, she directed the performance, “Fruits borne out of rust. This performance work toured the U.S. in 2020, traveling to four U.S. cities. This year, the work “Tangled Drop”, a collaboration with circus artist Jörg Müller, toured Japan as the world premiere. And a tour of France had just finished at the end of last year. A new installation work was presented at the Folkwang Museum in Germany in 2022. And a large-scale solo exhibition at GL Strand in Copenhagen was held in 2023.
