アニメーション映画監督。1960年生まれ。日本大学芸術学部特任教授。日大芸術学部映画学科在学中から宮崎駿監督作品『名探偵ホームズ』に脚本家として参加。監督作として、TVシリーズ『名犬ラッシー』（96）、長編『アリーテ姫』（01）、TVシリーズ『BLACK LAGOON』（06）、『マイマイ新子と千年の魔法』（09）など。広島と呉を舞台にした『この世界の片隅に』（16）は異例のロングラン上映を達成し、2019年12月には、新たなエピソードを加えた新作『この世界の（さらにいくつもの）片隅に』が公開された。

Animation film director. Specially appointed professor at Nihon University College of Art. While studying at the Nihon University College of Art, he participated as a scriptwriter in Hayao Miyazaki's "Sharlock Hound". Directed the TV series "LASSIE" (1996), the feature film "Princess Alite" (2001), the TV series "BLACK LAGOON" (2006), and Mai Mai Miracle (2009). In This Corner of the World (2016), set in Hiroshima and Kure, achieved an unusually long run, and a new film, In This Corner (and Other Corners) of the World, with new episodes, was released in December 2019.
