Steven Subotnick

インディペンデント実験アニメーター兼アーティスト。その作品は、歴史、民話、生物学、宗教などのテーマの読書にインスピレーションを得ている。アニメーションは、主題（イメージ、歴史的事件、隠喩）を直感的に捉える方法である。映画制作のかたわら、自己の主題を掘り下げ、様々なアングルから検討している。自身にとってアニメーションは思考と感情を具体的なものに変える活発で内省的な活動である。アニメーター、監督、イラストレーター、著者として活動しながら多くの機関でアニメーションを教えている。現在はRhode Island School of Design、マサチューセッツ芸術大学、およびブラウン大学で教鞭を執っている。

I am an independent, experimental animator and artist. My animations are invented and intimate worlds inspired by ideas I glean from readings in topics such as history, folk tales, biology, and religion. I use intuition, associative thinking, metaphor, and the poetry of color, mark-making, and texture as my primary animation tools.nI treat animation as a way of thinking intuitively about a subject (an image, an historical event, a metaphor).nWhile working on a film, I research my topic thoroughly and explore it from many angles.nFor me, animation is a form of active and reflective engagement that transforms thought and emotion into concrete objects.nI have worked as an animator, director, illustrator, author, and have taught animation at numerous institutions. I am currently teaching animation at Rhode Island School of Design, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and Brown University.
