SYNOPSIS
21歳の詩人ロージー・ミンは、中国人の過保護な祖父母と暮らしており、どこにも一人で旅したことがない。イランのシーラーズで行われる詩のフェスティバルでの朗読に招かれた彼女は、詩人やペルシャ人など様々な人々と出会う。そして、自分を捨てたと思っていたイラン人の父親について、多くを学ぶことになる。ロージーが辿る許し、和解、理解についての予期せぬ旅は、彼女の父親の過去や、彼女自身の文化的アイデンティティを発見させる。
アン・マリー・フレミングが監督し、サンドラ・オー、ナンシー・クワン、ショーレ・アグダシュルーらが声を担当したこの映画は、様々なアーティストやアニメーターによって作られた詩や物語に溢れており、様々に異なる文化・哲学・芸術・時代の違いを調和させていく。

Twenty-year-old poet Rosie Ming lives at home with her over-protective Chinese grandparents, never having travelled anywhere alone. When she’s invited to perform at a poetry festival in Shiraz, Iran, she meets colourful poets and Persians, and finally learns more about the Iranian father who she had assumed abandoned her. Rosie embarks on an unwitting journey of forgiveness, reconciliation, and understanding, as she discovers her father’s past and her own cultural identity. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Ann Marie Fleming, and featuring the voices of Sandra Oh, Don McKellar, Nancy Kuan, and Shohreh Aghdashloo, the film is filled with poems and histories created by a variety of artists and animators, who set out to blend a vast myriad of differences between cultures, philosophies, arts, and time frames. Window Horses takes a sensitive, subtle, and playful look at building bridges between cultural and generational divides. It’s a film about being curious, staying open, and finding your own voice through the magic of poetry. It’s a film about identity and the imagination.

アン・マリー・フレミングは数々の賞を受賞するカナダ人アーティスト。中国人とオーストラリア人の両親の元に生まれた彼女は、家族・アイデンティティ・歴史・記憶の問題を常に扱う。彼女は2003年に制作したアニメーション・ドキュメンタリー作品The Magical Life of Long Tack Samを原作として2007年に同名のグラフィック・ノベルを出版、アイズナー賞を受賞した。その後、I Was a Child of Holocaust Survivors (2010)、Big Trees (2013)といった数々の短編アニメーションや、Discovery USAのウェブサイトPlanetgreen.com用のウェブシリーズMy Place (2009)を制作している。彼女の最新作『ウィンドウ・ホーセズ』は、若いカナダの詩人が自分自身の家族の歴史を発見する長編アニメーション作品である。
Ann Marie Fleming is an award-winning Canadian independent filmmaker, writer, and artist. Born in Japan to Chinese and Australian parents, Fleming creates work that addresses themes of family, identity, history, and memory. She adapted her 2003 animated documentary The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam into an Eisner Award-winning graphic novel in 2007, and has followed with a number of acclaimed short films, including I Was a Child of Holocaust Survivors (2010), Big Trees (2013), and the animated web-series My Place (2009) for Discovery USA’s Planetgreen.com. Her latest project is Window Horses, a feature-length animated film about a young Canadian poet discovering her family history.
