計算されたシナリオを、抑制された動きとフレームの中で、絵を使って物語る。選び抜いた色の構成で見せる画面は、絵としての美しさを保ちつつ、それが描かれたものであることを観客に意識させることで、批評的客観性を持って、映画と対峙させる力を持っている。情けない日常、取り立ててドラマを持たないようなささやかな出来事を、大変洗練された上品な演出とビジュアルによって、映画的な幻想のレベルに押し上げた。

The story with a well-planned scenario is told with pictures with restrained movements and limited spaces of frames. The well-chosen composition of colors used in the film has maintained the beauty as the picture while keeps the power to make the audience aware of the fact that it is an only painted world and confront the film with critical objectivity. The film successfully rises a mundane everyday life that is consisted of small events with no real drama to the level of cinematic illusion with its very sophisticated and elegant direction and visuals.

観客の位置は変わらないが、周りの環境は徐々に変化し、最終的に全部置き換えられる。作者は時代ごとの特徴をよく調べ、建物から小道具まで丁寧に描き、時代の変化や人々への影響をさりげなく示した。背景の変化によって、ここに住む家族や隣人たちは何を経験したのか、この国が何を経験したのか、常に連想させる。写実的なタッチで淡々とした日常、過去への郷愁、そして時代と対抗できない小さな個人であることの無力さを表した。

The position of the audience remains the same, but the surrounding environment gradually changes and is eventually replaced entirely. The filmmaker has carefully studied the characteristics of each era and depicted everything from buildings to props, subtly showing the changes of the times and their impact on the people. The changes in the background constantly remind us of what the families and neighbors living here have gone through, and what this country has gone through. With a photorealistic touch, the director expresses the unhurried daily life, nostalgia for the past, and the helplessness of being a small individual who cannot compete with the times.

自由で豊かな表現で構成された作風はネガティブにもなりそうな題材を重い空気にならずに描ききっていて、勢いと技術の融合も見事に作品の魅力となっていて、粗けずりな部分もとても好感が持てる作品でした。

Its free and richly expressive style enables the film to tell a story with a potentially negative subject without creating a heavy atmosphere, and the fusion of dynamics and the skillful technique is a wonderful attraction of this film. Even the roughness and rawness are very pleasing.

アニメーションという時間を創作するメディアで、特殊な時間を表現し、体験させる作品。その時間構造は、重層的であり、横断的であり、入子状にもなってもいる。また「認識する」ということ自体に対して考えさせられる点も興味深い。限られたスペース、限られた時間、限られた視聴覚情報で、人生を理解し、認識したと思っていても、その限界の外側はどこまであるのか、知る術はなく、メタ認知の可能性はどこにあるのかも考えさせられた。

The film proves that animation is the art form that creates a special kind of time and experiences it. The time structure of this film is multilayered, transversal, and nested. It is also interesting in that it makes us think about recognition itself. Even if we think we understand and recognize life with limited space, limited time, and limited audiovisual information, we have no way of knowing how far outside those limits we are, and it made us think about the possibilities of metacognition.

色彩や手法が印象的で、物語に寄り添いながら丁寧に大胆に描かれていた今作は、何度も議論の対象として上がって、審査する中でいい意味で悩ましく、今年の映画祭のコンペティションでは台風の目とも言える作品でした。

This film, with its impressive colors and techniques, carefully but boldly expresses while staying close to the story. It was repeatedly brought up for discussion of the jury final meeting and could be called the eye of the typhoon in this year's international short competition.

繊細な仕草とやさしい絵柄によって、その裏にある恐怖を、緊張感に満ちた演出で見事に描いている。作者は極端な物語を通して、カップルの間にしばしば存在する普遍的な矛盾を端的に表した。支配欲と独占欲、相手に対する怨み、自虐行為、そして女性による秘密の復讐。人間の怖さ、家庭に潜む暴力を力強く表現した。

Through delicate gestures and gentle drawings, the filmmaker has masterfully portrayed the fear behind the story with mise-en-scène filled with tension. Through the story told in a extreme way, the author has neatly expressed the contradictions that often exist between couples. Dominance and possessiveness, resentment towards the other, self-mutilation, and secret revenge by a woman. The film has powerfully expressed the horror of human nature and the violence that is hidden inside a house.

見えない世界をビジュアル化するアニメーションは多いが、見えないことを見えないままに語る「非視覚化」という、アニメーションにとって逆説的でもある挑戦をしている。しかもアニメーション的要素を最小限までに削ぎ落とした引き算の表現によって、多くのことを想像させ、出来事をより緊張感を持ってリアルに理解させる。セクシャルハラスメントの問題にとどまらず、権威に従ってしまう人間の恐ろしさ、それに伴う責任のあり方など、より幅広い社会的メッセージとメタファーを含有する。様々な思考を刺激する実験的な創作を成し遂げた作品であるが、作品の内容そのものは、トラウマ・ポルノになる可能性もある両義的な存在でもあり、その点は評価が難しい。しかしながら作者の創造性の高さに対して、スペシャル・メンションを与えます。

There are many animation films that visualize the invisible world, but this one takes on the paradoxical challenge of "non-visualization," telling the story of the invisible without being visible. In addition, by cutting down the elements of animation to a minimum and subtracting expressions that are far from animation-like, the work makes us imagine many things and understand events more realistically with a sense of tension. In addition to the issue of sexual harassment, the film contains broader social messages and metaphors, such as the nature of people who follow authority and the problem of the responsibilities that arise. The film is an achivement as experimentation while the content of the work itself is ambivalent, with the potential to become trauma pornography, and this is difficult to evaluate. However, I give the director a special mention for his creativity.

私たちは一つの大きな物語の中を生きているわけではなく、一人一人に物語が独立していて、それらが交差して響き合って存在しているのだと思います。 しかし、私たちが人類の歴史を振り返るとき、国ごとに集約された大きな一つの物語になってしまいます。 私たちは、その集約された大きな物語を丁寧にほどきながら、そこに存在する物語の一本一本の糸を見出していくことで、多角的に歴史に向き合い、そして、初めて他者を理解することが出来るのだと思います。

We do not live in one big story, but each of us has an independent story that intersects and resonates with each other. However, when we look back at human history, we end up with one big story like the history of each country. By carefully unraveling these large stories, we can discover the individual threads of the hidden but existing stories. This is how we can understand each other.

焦点が定まった詳細な様子とそれにピタリとマッチするリズム。なるほどなるほど、と思ったのは束の間、グッとその様子が俯瞰されると一瞬前に見たはずの出来事が全く分からなくなる。長編アニメーションの多くはしっかりとしたストーリーを軸に、詳細なエピソードが散りばめられている。その詳細が大きなストーリーを濃密なものにしてゆくとするなら、この作品ではまるでその逆である。目を凝らして見た細かなディティールは、どこかで繋がっているようでいながら、そもそもなんの関係もないのかもしれないのだ。ただそれが何だか楽しい。のは、私だけではないはずだ。インパクトのあるビジュアルがどこか不穏でユーモラスな旋律と共に瞬く間に変化し、目を離させない。「長編」の重要な要素であるはずのストーリー性からの逸脱という挑戦が、その新しいあり方を提示している。

Focusing the details accurately with a rhythm that matches perfectly but shifting into a bird's-eye view makes the viewers lose what happened just a moment ago. Many feature-length animations are based on detailed episodes centered around a solid story and these details make a whole story dense. What happened in this film is the opposite: the details seem to be connected somewhere, but it is possible that they don't have any connections. It makes me feel fun, and I would not be the only one. The high-impact visual that changes in a blink of an eye with some uncanny and humorous melody keeps attracting our eyes. The challenge of deviating from the story, which should be an important element of feature films, makes this film innovative.

アニメーションの表現で「メタモルフォーゼ」というものがあります。形状が次々と別の形状に変化していく表現のことです。その変容していく様は、視覚的な喜びを感じさせるものだったりします。人生も常にメタモルフォーゼしていきます。私たちの姿も、周りとの関係も、暮らしている街並みや社会も。それは、留めることができない無常さも感じさせます。メタモルフォーゼは、喜びだけではなく切なさも内包しているのだと思います。この作品は、変容していく人生の中で、変わらずに問題が残り続ける残酷さを浮き彫りにしています。

"There is an expression in animation called ""Metamorphosis"". It is an expression in which one shape changes into another. This method can be a visual delight. Life is also constantly metamorphosing as are our appearance, our relationships with the people around us, the cityscape, and the society we live in. It also gives us a sense of ephemerality. Metamorphosis contains not only joy but also sadness. This work highlights the cruelty of the problems that remain unchanged in a transforming life with this method."

ハラハラドキドキと主人公を応援しながら、細かく作られたグロテスクな世界でのロマンチックなストーリーに引き込まれました。

We were emotionally invested in the main character as they found romance in an intricately made grotesque world.

丹念にカット割りされ、ロトスコープを使った少ない表情のアニメーションで、それぞれのおかれている関係性の現状と、過去、未来も読み取らせつつ、音楽の高揚感と、物語での高揚感がリンクして、音楽を聞きつつ、物語を味わうことに成功している。

This carefully edited and rotoscoped film leads the viewer to read the relationships of each character along with their past and future although with few facial expressions. The climax of the music is linked to the culmination of the story, successfully allowing the viewer to enjoy the story while listening to the music.

簡潔なアートワークと緻密な物語の相乗効果によって、繊細な叙情性を達成しています。結末には心が洗われました。とても前向きな気持ちにさせてくれます。

A delicate lyricism is achieved by the synergy between the concise artwork and the elaborate narrative. The ending is heartwarming and gives a very positive feeling.

この物語は、歴史上にたしかに存在した具体的な時代と場所を舞台としながらも、普遍的なメッセージに開かれています。作中にて描かれる亡霊たちの在り方は、まるで愛にも呪いにもみえます。

Although the story is set in a specific time and place in actual history, its message can be felt universally. How the ghosts are portrayed in the story gives the impression as if they are love or a curse.

困難な状況のなかにあってもよどむことない、子どもたちの奔放な想像力に、胸を打たれました。それと同時に、子どもたちが失ったものを想い、切なくもなります。

The children's unbridled imagination which never falters even in the midst of difficult circumstances strike your heart. At the same time, it's sad to think about what the children had lost.

踊るようなピアノの旋律に導かれて、浮遊する体を与えてくれる。あらゆるものに意味を求める窮屈な私たちに送られる、意味などいらないアニメーションの冒険です。

どうして私たちは、どうしようもなく「つながり」をもとめ、そうして傷つくのでしょうか？　本作が示す希望はきわめてシリアスです。しかしながらそれゆえに、孤独と向き合えるよう、そっと背中を押してくれるはずです。

驚くようなユーモアのセンスで、大いに笑わせてもらいました！　と同時に、ユニークなアイデアに説得力を与えるための細部のつくり込みには、大変感心させられました！

日常のひと幕を切り取ったようでありながらも、不思議な非日常が不意に顔をのぞかせる。そんな、日々に魔法をかけてくれるような、ユニークな世界観がとても魅力的です。

寄せては返す波のような、みずみずしいアニメーションは、頬をなでる潮風や遺骨の匂いまでも、ありありと感じさせます。それはまるで、幼い頃の記憶がよみがえったかのようでした。

私たちはいったい、いつ「大人」になるのでしょうか？　それは同級生のことが幼稚に思えてならなくなったとき？　それとも友人と疎遠になったとき？　あるいは新しい家族をもったときでしょうか？　きっと、そのすべてが私たちを「大人」にするのでしょう。だからこそ、この物語はこんなにも切なく響くのです。
