作品の左上に見える7種類のドット絵のパレットを用いた実験的GIFアニメーションという本作は、まさにタイトル『Astronaut』にふさわしいピクセルアートの宇宙を見るようであり、作者の応募作品の中で抜きんでていると感じた。視覚に激しい混乱がもたらされながら、ずっと見ていたいと思える気持ちの良い浮遊。もはや職人芸といえるピクセルアート作品を発表し続ける作者は、ビジュアル的なお洒落さではなく、圧倒的な密度による驚きを突き詰めている。低解像度という自ら設けた制限を美学で大きく超えるGIFアニメーションに敬意をこめて、審査員特別賞を送ります。
This experimental GIF animation with a palette of seven dot animations on the upper left corner of the screen is like watching a pixel art of outer space that perfectly reflects its title, “Astronaut,” and it stands out amidst the other pieces submitted by the same creator. It is visually chaotic but is also emotionally soothing, making the viewer feel like watching it over and over. The creator, a virtuoso of pixel art that continues to publish works, pursues to wow the viewer with overwhelming density instead of stylish visuals. I present this award with respect to the GIF animation whose aesthetics significantly transcend the limitations of low resolution that the creator has chosen to express art.
