O/S
SYNOPSIS
『O/S』は、20世紀初頭のアバンギャルドな視覚的音響実験にインスパイアされ、オプティカル・オーディオというアナログ技術へのデジタル的アプローチを探求している。セルロイドフィルムの帯の光学サウンドトラックに描画するのとは対照的に、『O/S』では画像全体がサウンドトラックとなる： 目に映るものすべてが音を発生させる。見るものすべてが音を発生させる。『O/S』のすべての色調は、特定の視覚的な形や動きをデザインすることによって視覚的に構成されている。課題は、視覚的表現と音による表現のバランスをとり、見る者に共感覚的な体験をもたらす作品を作ることだった： 視覚的に作られながら、音響も興味深い作品である。
Inspired by early 20th-century avant-garde graphical sound experiments, ‘O/S’ explores digital approaches to the analogue technique of optical audio. In contrast to drawing on a celluloid film strip’s optical soundtrack, in ‘O/S’, the entire image is a soundtrack: Everything you see generates sound. What you hear is what you see. All tones in ‘O/S’ have been composed visually by designing specific visual shapes and movements. The challenge was to create a film that balances visual and sonic expression to create a synaesthetic experience for the viewer: A work that is created visually but also sounds interesting.

Max HATTLER
マックス・ハトラーの実験的アニメーション作品は、抽象と具象、美学と政治、音と映像、正確さと即興の関係を探求している。Goldsmiths大学でメディアとコミュニケーションの学士号、ロイヤル・カレッジ・オブ・アートでアニメーションの修士号、イースト・ロンドン大学で美術の博士号を取得。Sonar Hong Kong、ソウル市立美術館、ミラノ万博、ヨーロッパ・メディア・アート・フェスティバルなどでライブ・パフォーマンスを行っている。香港城市大学クリエイティブ・メディア学部教授。
Max Hattler’s experimental animation works explore relationships between abstraction and figuration, aesthetics and politics, sound and image, and precision and improvisation. Max holds a BA in Media and Communications from Goldsmiths, an MA in Animation from the Royal College of Art, and a Doctorate in Fine Art from the University of East London. He has performed live at Sonar Hong Kong, Seoul Museum of Art, EXPO Milano and the European Media Art Festival. He is a Professor at School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
