ハン・ジウォン「From Summer to Mars」

本プログラムでは、本映画祭の国際審査員をつとめるアニメーション監督のハン・ジウォン氏を迎え、最新作である映画『The Summer／あの夏』、Netflix配信映画『あの星に君がいる』にいたるまでの自身のキャリアと制作スタイルについてお話していただきます。

This program welcomes animation director HAN Jiwon, a member of the International Jury of the festival, to talk about her career and creative style leading up to her latest work ”The Summer” and the Netflix film ”Lost in Starlight”.

STATEMENT

インディペンデントの映画作家、アニメーター、イラストレーターとして、私は独自の方法で作品や画風を発展させながら、商業プロジェクトへも活動を広げてきました。

この講演では、韓国の商業アニメーション業界では比較的珍しい「会社や固定チームを持たない小規模なフリーランス監督」として、どのように機会を築いてきたかを共有したいと思います。また、その過程において、いかに創造性を保ち、進化させてきたのかについてもお話しする予定です。

過去に手がけた商業広告や、自作短編映画の予告編を紹介しながら、リソースや制作環境に応じて自らのビジョンや画風がどのように変化してきたのかを示したいと考えています。

全体として、この講演では監督としての7年間の歩みを振り返り、インディペンデントな活動と商業プロジェクトの両立をどのように模索してきたのかに焦点を当てます。

As an independent filmmaker, animator, and illustrator, I have developed a unique way of progressing my work and art style while also expanding into commercial projects.

In this lecture, I would like to share how I was able to build opportunities as a small freelancing director—without a company or a regular team—which is relatively rare in the Korean commercial animation industry. I also plan to talk about how my creativity has survived and evolved throughout this journey.

By introducing some of my past works, such as commercial ads and trailers of my short films, I will illustrate how my vision and art style have shifted depending on resources and working environments.

Overall, the lecture will cover my past seven years of growth as a director, focusing on how I’ve sought to keep a balance between independent work and commercial projects.

ハン・ジウォンは、ソウルを拠点に活動するアニメーション映画監督、イラストレーター、コミック作家です。彼女の作品は若者の夢や感情体験を描き、プレッシャーの強い社会に生きる登場人物の主観的な瞬間に焦点を当てる。韓国芸術総合学校在学中に制作した短編アニメーション『Kopi Luwak』で映画制作を始め、同作は2010年のソウル・インディ・アニフェストで大賞を受賞しました。その後、自身の短編アニメーションをまとめた長編作品『Clearer Than You Think』を発表。ほかにウェブアニメーションシリーズ『Recipe to My Daughter』、Kakao TVウェブドラマ『Amanza』への参加、チェ・ウンヨンの小説を原作とした短編アニメーションシリーズ『That Summer』など。さらにオリジナル長編アニメーション映画『Lost in Starlight』は、Climax Studioとの共同制作により、Netflixが韓国で初めて製作・公開したアニメーション作品となる。

HAN Jiwon is an animated film director, illustrator, and comic book writer based in Seoul, Korea. Her work often explores the dreams and emotional experiences of youth, focusing on the subjective moments of characters living in Korea’s pressure-filled society. Jiwon Han began her film career with the short animation Kopi Luwak while studying at the Korean National University of Arts, which earned her the Grand Prize at the Seoul Indie Ani-fest in 2010. She later released a feature-length compilation of her short animations, Clearer Than You Think. Her projects include the web animation series Recipe to My Daughter, contributions to the Kakao TV web drama Amanza, and the short-form animated series The Summer, based on the original novel by Choi Eun-young. This original animated film ’Lost in Starlight’ is the first animation produced and released by Netflix in Korea, in collaboration with Climax Studio.
