寒山拾得 Hanshan and Shide

SYNOPSIS

美術史学者の辻惟雄によって、奇想の系譜と位置づけられている寒山拾得をテーマに、東アジアの禅思想をベースにした作品制作を進めています。二人は普賢菩薩、文殊菩薩の生まれ変わりとされ、脱俗した生活を送り現世をあざ笑います。彼らの奇行をこと細かく描き、その脱俗の境地を探りたいと思っています。

I am developing a work centered on Hanshan and Shide, figures that art historian TSUJI Nobuo positioned within a “lineage of eccentricity,” drawing on East Asian Zen thought. The two are regarded as reincarnations of the bodhisattvas Samantabhadra and Manjushri, living lives detached from worldly conventions and laughing at the mundane world. By depicting their eccentric behavior in meticulous detail, I hope to explore the state of transcendence they embody.
